Wisdom From Charles Brindley

When the trees are exceptionally beautiful like they have been this fall I think immediately of Charles Brindley. Charles is an artist who lives on the KY/TN state line in the small community of Adairville. He calls his exceptional drawings of trees “ Branchology”. Charles spoke to the Nashville Artist Guild in 2017 and passed on to us the wisdom of a lifelong artist. Here are some of Charles Brindley’s words of wisdom given on a beautiful fall day in November 2017.

“A leap of faith is often required for something meaningful to happen.

If you know someone who has lost their identity, or the way someone views themselves, they are often not happy.

A person sometimes has to redefine oneself to be excited about engaging life.”

Making mistakes is part of the creative process. If someone engages creativity they will make bad visual decisions that they will ultimately alter and make better.

Focus creates discomfort and challenges that require the effort of resolution.

No one likes the anxiety associated with uncertainty, but for an individual to experience creative courage they have to face those uncertainties and search for solutions. Painters have the same experience through engagement with the surface of their painting.
