Let’s Party

Nothing says, “Let’s party!” like a red dress.

Our model, Brenda, came to the studio wearing her red party dress and gave the art students a delightful holiday subject. The progression of my charcoal drawing went through many stages and you can see the development of the drawing as I worked to get the lines and the values correct. I find drawing with charcoal my best medium for several reasons. The first reason being its forgiveness. Charcoal can easily be erased to get the drawing correct and can be pushed and pulled on the paper to give time to think and evaluate how the artwork is coming along.

Brenda’s red dress says, “Party Time” and the progression of the drawing shows the struggle to get to the party with a finished drawing. It’s not easy, but it is rewarding to arrive at the end of the struggle with something that has a message and communicates to the viewer an emotion like, “Let’s party.”

Enjoy life and art,
Rita
