Dear Friends,
My granddaughter Penny posed for me looking dreamily out a window in my home and there it was, the emotion I wanted for her portrait. My goal is always to find the soul of the sitter in my art. I have learned to begin my drawing by placing guidelines directly onto the reference photo and then use the same guidelines on the drawing paper, (another good reason to use charcoal, it erases easily). Penny was born in St Petersburg Russia, her mother is Russian and her father, my son, American. In the blog this month you can read about “The Russian Wedding” in St Petersburg, August 2010. What a wedding!
